Buckskin Mountain State Park
Fun Buckskin Search-A-Word and jigsaw puzzle are below the article!
Are you between the ages of six and twelve? Buckskin Mountain wants Junior Rangers! And it’s a great place to have fun in nature.
Buckskin Mountain State Park has great views of the Colorado River along the “Parker Strip”, an 18-mile stretch between Parker Dam and Headgate Dam. And it’s less than an hour north of Quartzsite!
Mountains line the river on both the Arizona and California sides, and the wildlife is as varied as the outdoor fun along the river. This park has mountain hiking, a desert escape and fun-filled water adventure for the whole family.
Buckskin Mountain State Park also has a campground, waterfront camping, beach, hiking trails, boat ramp, picnic area, basketball and volleyball court, playground, and park store.

And, for kids ages six through twelve, it has a Junior Ranger Program!
Buckskin Mountain wants Junior Rangers!
From the Buckskin Mountain State Park website –
If you’re between ages 6–12, you can become a Junior Ranger at Buckskin Mountain State Park! Pledge to do your part to help preserve the beauty of the park for everyone to enjoy!
Your first project will be to complete the Activity Sheet on the park’s website. It’s just one of the fun activities you can do to become a Junior Ranger. All you need to do is print it off and complete it.
Click here to get to this sheet under the “Activity Sheet Summary” on the park’s website, where you can download this Junior Ranger activity for our park. Just click on where it says to download the one-page activity sheet.
After you complete it, bring it with you to the park and you’re on your way to becoming a Junior Ranger!
When you visit the park, ask for a full Junior Ranger booklet at the Visitor Center, Ranger Station or office. Complete the activities during your visit and then bring it to a Park Ranger for review. (Parents note – park entrance fee per vehicle is $10 for a day visit, for up to four adults in the car. Walk-ins and bicycles are $3 each.)
When a Park Ranger approves your work you’ll be asked to take the Junior Ranger Pledge and get sworn in as our newest Junior Ranger. You’ll also be given a Junior Ranger Button.
We hope to see you at the park!
Junior Ranger Pledge and Button –
Junior Ranger Pledge: “As an Arizona State Parks Junior Ranger, I pledge to help the park rangers protect and preserve habitat, wildlife, and help keep the park clean and safe for visitors and wildlife.”
Remember, you can become a Junior Ranger at nearly all Arizona State Parks!
Explore the Arizona State Parks website and visit the FOR KIDS page for each park for more activities.
Junior Ranger Button: Show everyone that you’re a Junior Ranger! After you complete your activities and take the Junior Ranger Pledge you’ll receive a Junior Ranger Button, like the one to the right.
You can pin it to your pack, put it on a bulletin board, or proudly wear it. Check out the button for this park in the picture to the right!
